A fantastic model, long overdue. :)
By Thomas Grillo
This model of the Battlestar Galactica is not your father's Galactica. Meaning, it's nothing like the old Monogram release. This one has much of the detail, and proportions found on the studio scale filming miniature.

Some of the parts were a bit tricky to fit together, but for the most part, everything's fitting together nicely

I'm amazed at how detailed this kit is. I do wish the stand was more robust in the base though.

This kit even came with two miniature matte paintings that go inside the port, and starboard landing bays. What an awesome touch that is! Don't throw out the box! It has the mattes printed on the inner box.

I wanted to light this model, but it's small size makes that too difficult to execute. I may be able to use micro drills, and just let passive lighting from outside the model do the job, albeit not as cool as fiber optic lighting. The engines come with a clear plate that has the honey comb pattern on it. I recommend putting a bit of frosted sticky tape on the back of it, and then use a red permanent marker to colour the red engine in the center.

I also recommend not gluing the engine back panel in place so you can add LED lighting for the engines. :)

I did learn from the instructions that the model is molded in the colour of the actual filming miniature, which is off-white.

The completed model measures 17, and a half inches long, by 7 inches wide.

I did notice a few minor details either not well rendered, or missing which exist in the filming miniature. I believe this is likely due to how small the kit is, and that had the kit been larger, those minute details discrepancies would have been present, or better rendered. Those happen to be at the mid, and starboard side of the head where a thin pipe should rn from the starboard eye, to the raised band of detail at the mid point of the head. No big deal, though. The others are just above the port, and starboard name plates at the forward ends of the landing bay, where detail is inaccurately rendered. Also, not a big deal breaker for sure.

All in all, this model is quite well worth both the 35 year wait, and admission price.

The detail is so good, that it's like having a near perfect replica of the filming mini on your desk.

I thank Moebius Models, and congratulate them for releasing such a great kit with so much detail.

I only hope they do a larger version of the kit.

Oh, don't panic when you get the box. It's rather small, but that's because model makers have found the way to pack parts better these days. ;)

Work carefully. Many parts, such as the leg front, and aft plates look alike initially, but have different detailing on each. Check the instructions, and stems carefully before grabbing, and gluing.

Enjoy!

This is one of the finest science fiction models I have ever had the pleasure of putting together.
By T. Kelly
I will make this review short and sweat.
First of all, get rid of any pre conceieved idea that this kit has anything in common with the old monogram kit. It doesn't.
The old kit was lacking in everything and the only way to get something even close to the series ship was by doing a lot of detail work yourself. This kit on the other hand is just about as accurate to a filming minature as you can get. The details are simply amazing.
The old kit had a huge box and about 15 pieces for the kit. This one has a small box and about 90 pieces.
I really can't say anything negative about this kit. It is as close to perfect as any model kit I have ever put together and that includes real life minatures.
If you enjoy putting together science fiction kits then this is one kit you don't want to miss.
But be warned! follow the instructions and do yourself a favor and get a fine point marker to mark the part number on the back of the pieces. It will help once they come of the sprues.
