Over all amazing piece from a new product line.

I was recommended to get this after a text review of another Star Trek miniature.
I did a video review of this Defiant and posted it on Youtube at [...]
So little about this miniature it's detail is amazing the ship only has a few problems.
These problems are the red clear impulse inserts seem to always be left out.
The federation symbol on one side is pointing to the read but they always, always point to the front of the ship.
There seems to be a quality control issue with the navigational deflector nose being loose. Now I don't know how it's mounted so I have no idea if this is a real issue or not.

The book is over all stunning.

Some changes I wish they would make.
Make the pulse Phaser cannons stand out a little more.
Go with the square red impulse engines instead of the round red dot ones.
Make it about an inch or so smaller I like my defiant being a small 3 deck Destroyer instead of the larger Heavy Destroyer.
Fix the loose navigational deflector nose.
Then this would be a thousand times better.

NX - 74205

UPDATE: 02/13/14 - I have to knock this rating down to 4-stars. In my reviews I have expressed concern over the durability of the plastic risers that cradle the starship. The stand for this defiant ship is the worst example yet. The clear plastic riser does not securely attach to the base, and since the configuration of the ship makes it very front heavy, it keeps popping out. I like Eaglemoss products. I really like the Star Trek starships, but these cheap plastic risers has me thinking that there is some "planned Obsolescence" being deliberately designed into these products. For $20.00 a pop, I should not have to be Zap-A-Gaping stands straight out of the box. Read the Eaglemoss response to my inquiry below.
---------------------------

(Eaglemoss - starship # 9)

These starships can be ordered direct through Eaglemoss subscription, right here on Amazon or at other outlets like BBTS. Over the years I have bought numerous products from this company and have yet to be disappointed. My Star Trek collection is made up of many different brands and these EM vessels are very nicely filling in the gaps. And I am very please with this Defiant.

It measures in at 4.375" long and 3.25" wide and is a composite of die-cast metal and plastic sections. As best as I can tell, the upper half of the main hull is metal, while the lower half, rap-around warp nacelles and forward (deflector & targeting array) hull are all plastic. This front compartment "wiggles" somewhat and I am not going to test it. The nacelle's have red plastic inserts in the front and blue in the rear. Unlike some of the other starships the light does not show through these.

When it comes to appearance this Amazon Product image does not do it justice. Details like vents, hatches, and plating are all molded into the light grey hull. These outer sections are further highlighted with the use of a light matte aqua blue. Some very small areas are distinguished with tan, brown, black and teal. There is ample & accurate usage of red "pin-striping" and the name and/or numerical designation is printed in 6 locations.

A very sturdy base is provided that is made of metal with non-skid felt on the bottom. Oddly, a silver name plate sticker is also on the bottom where you cannot readily see it. This would have looked so much better on the rounded top. Lastly, the 20-page magazine is excellently stuffed with information, designs & schematics, art work & photos, all telling some part of the fictional & non-fictional story behind the United Federation of Planets first true warship.

I'll end this with my one big gripe. I do not like the plastic riser that cradles the ship. It just feels cheap. Back in early December I contacted Eaglemoss over this and was told (a) that they were aware of no complaints regarding breakage and (b) that should it break, and if you subscribed through them, they would replace it free-of-charge. They said they would not be offering them separately, so if you bought yours elsewhere and it snaps, you are stuck with it.
